Deluxe kicked off our inaugural global hackathon — Deluxe HackD — on July 26. With 24 hours on the clock, 81 participants in 30 teams around the world demonstrated the immense talent that resides in Deluxe, providing an opportunity for that talent to shine in a way that has direct impact on the growth and advancement of our business through technology.
The creativity, technical skill, and passion displayed by each of the participating teams was inspiring. Submissions ranged from innovations with defined practical applications that can be implemented today to moonshot product concepts that can change the way we work tomorrow.
The most difficult aspect of the Hackathon was to crown a winner, as so many of the ideas were truly phenomenal. Many of the projects, regardless of their ranking, will be carried forward and ultimately implemented.
The first place winner, Avoid Void, developed an innovative application for voice to text automation with auto conform for localization of content. The tool leverages available speech-to-text APIs to get words/timings, using the data to develop logic for timed text conform QC, auto-conform, auto-captions and respeaking. With team members in both California and Ukraine, Avoid Void is a testament to both Deluxe’s ingenuity and global worldview.
Second place went to Team No Smoking for automated object recognition for compliance and text placement on screen with automated sync to timecode, allowing for automatic fixes for subtitles overlapping onscreen text. Team Viewscribe took third place for their development of machine learning for descriptive audio services, allowing for additional context to accessibiltiy services for the visually impaired. And the Fan Favorite was Team CanaDyne, for a brain sensing color correction tool to potentially adjust image color based on brain waves.
Congratulations to all the winners and everyone who helped make this an incredibly successful first Deluxe HackD!
